Just a few years back, Shakira faced a terrifying moment when a vocal cord hemorrhage in 2017 left her unable to sing, making her fear that she may never be able to perform again.
In an interview with The Guardian, a 42-year-old Colombian singer shared how she never imagined losing her voice, as it was a part of her identity. The singer admitted that not being able to sing was incredibly difficult for her, leading to periods of depression so severe that she struggled to even get out of bed.
In an effort to regain her voice and minimize further harm, Shakira shared that she endured phases where she chose not to speak at all. She characterized herself during this period as feeling “negative” and “resentful.” She expressed that she felt she needed either medical treatment or a miracle to improve her voice.
Despite doctors suggesting surgery, the musician opted for alternative methods such as meditation, hypnosis, and holy water from Lourdes.
Ultimately, her voice came back naturally, without the need for any surgical intervention. She described the sensation to The Guardian as feeling like a profound and almost mystical moment.
